Saint Lucians are already grappling with the challenges of an escalating cost of living. From soaring prices in grocery stores to increasing utility bills, citizens are finding it increasingly difficult to make ends meet. The introduction of Philip J Pierre’s new tax on goods and services only adds to their financial burdens, forcing them to tighten their belts even further and limiting their ability to maintain a decent standard of living.

As the cost of living continues to rise, the introduction of this tax further compounds the difficulties faced by ordinary citizens. Real estate, accounting, legal transactions, cleaning services, advertising, telecommunication services, and essential trades such as plumbing, electrical, A/C installation, and information technology services are just a few examples of the areas that will become more expensive due to this tax, placing an undue strain on already stretched budgets.

Prime Minister Philip J Pierre’s implementation of a new 2.5% tax on goods and services showcases a disconnect between the government and the struggles of the people. As most Saint Lucians are already barely surviving under the weight of the current cost of living, this new tax places an unfair burden on their shoulders.
