Once again, the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) has resorted to falsehoods in a desperate attempt to cover up the shameful behavior of Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre.
At yesterday’s Jubilee church service hosted in Gros Islet by Archbishop Gabriel Malzaire, Hon. Allen Chastanet, Leader of the Opposition, attended in a spirit of unity and respect for the occasion. However, when the customary “sign of peace” was exchanged, Prime Minister Pierre deliberately refused to shake Hon. Chastanet’s hand, a clear and undeniable act witnessed by those in attendance.
Facing public backlash for his inappropriate behavior at a sacred religious event, the SLP has now attempted to shift the narrative by falsely claiming that Hon. Chastanet walked out on the Archbishop. This is a blatant lie.
Hon. Chastanet remained present throughout the service and engaged respectfully in all proceedings. The false claim that he “walked out on the Archbishop” is nothing more than an SLP fabrication designed to distract from Prime Minister Pierre’s own divisive conduct.
The people of Saint Lucia deserve better than a government that continuously distorts the truth. It is disappointing but not surprising that rather than taking responsibility for the Prime Minister’s actions, the SLP has instead chosen to mislead the nation.
The United Workers Party remains committed to honesty, integrity and true leadership, qualities that the SLP seems incapable of demonstrating.
