The government led by Philip J. Pierre is poised to introduce a controversial Sovereign Wealth Fund that will give unprecedented control of the nation’s most valuable assets to foreign interests, sparking serious concerns about national sovereignty and economic security.
Under the proposed fund, all government-owned assets, including crown lands, airports and government buildings, would be vested into this fund. While the idea of a Sovereign Wealth Fund is not inherently flawed and can be used to preserve wealth for future generations, the specifics of this proposal are alarming.
Most concerning are the allegations surrounding one of the supposed foreign controllers of the fund, an English gentleman already notorious for his role in a failed investment project in Saint Lucia, which scammed British pensioners out of millions of dollars. The prospect of this individual having control over Saint Lucia’s sovereign assets is not only worrisome but also poses a threat to the economic integrity and autonomy of our nation.
Why would the government consider entrusting the nation’s most valuable assets to someone whose past actions have raised significant red flags? This move could potentially jeopardize the financial future of Saint Lucia and sell out the interests of its citizens to overseas parties.
The introduction of this Sovereign Wealth Fund needs to be scrutinized thoroughly. The citizens of Saint Lucia deserve transparency about who is managing their country’s assets and the terms involved in such management. Anything less would be a betrayal of the trust placed in our leaders to safeguard our national resources.
We have already witnessed our ports being given away to foreign interests and thousands of our citizenships as well under this reckless Philip Pierre administration. Lucians watch your bread! #PierrePaBon
