The continued victimization of police officers under this uncaring and vindictive SLP administration, led by Philip J. Pierre, is not just an attack on law enforcement, it is an attack on the very foundation of law and order in our country.
First, they victimized the close protection officer of the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Allen Chastanet, in a blatant act of political pettiness. Then, they targeted Sergeant Yann Gustave, not because of wrongdoing, but because he dared to speak out against the reckless policies of this failing administration.
Their disrespect for the police force continued during salary negotiations when they dishonestly claimed that negotiations were complete, despite the police force rejecting the proposal. This level of deception is not only unacceptable, it is dangerous.
Now, their latest act of political persecution is against Kakal, a well-known calypsonian, simply for performing at a UWP National Public Meeting. Kakal never endorsed the UWP, he never wore yellow, he simply exercised his right to perform, yet he is now facing the wrath of an administration that thrives on fear and intimidation.
And while they target hardworking officers, they have ignored serious allegations against the Deputy Commissioner of Police, who has been accused of sexually assaulting multiple female officers. The public has called for an investigation, yet this administration has chosen silence and cover-ups over justice and accountability.
If the government can openly victimize the very people who protect us, then none of us are safe. This is not just about politics, this is about justice, fairness and the rule of law.
We stand with our police officers against this political victimization. Saint Lucia deserves leadership that respects those who serve, not one that punishes them for doing their job.
