Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre continues to peddle the false narrative that there were “no new investments” under the United Workers Party (UWP) between 2016 and 2021. This claim is not only misleading, it is a deliberate attempt to erase a record of tangible progress.
Despite the global disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the UWP administration successfully attracted a range of major investments that helped stimulate the economy, create jobs and modernize Saint Lucia’s infrastructure. Among them were:
1) Cabot Saint Lucia – a world-class golf and residential development
2) DSH (Pearl of the Caribbean) – a transformative project in the South which employed approximately 100 locals before it was abandoned by the SLP
3) ItelBPO & Ojo Labs – 300 Jobs
4) Digicel Headquarters – 200 Jobs
5) interCaribbean Airways – Expanded regional airlift
6) Courtyard Marriott at Pointe Seraphine – Construction of this project started in 2020
7) The Construction of Serenity at Coconut Bay
8 )I Am Jet Centre Private Jet Facility in Vieux Fort– enhancing luxury travel
9) Caribbean Quality Meats – investment in agro-processing and food security
Ironically, many of these same projects were vocally opposed by Philip Pierre and his team while in Opposition. Now, in Government, they enjoy the benefits of these same developments they once tried to stop.
The facts are clear: under UWP, Saint Lucia saw real investment, real jobs, and real progress. The Prime Minister’s attempt to rewrite history only reveals how little his administration has done in comparison. #PierrePaBon#RightTheWrong
