Philip J Pierre and Infrastructure Minister Stephenson King, declared boldly that 2024–2025 would be Saint Lucia’s “Year of Infrastructure,” promising transformative improvements island-wide. However, as we reflect on this pledge, the reality starkly contrasts their rhetoric.
The Millennium Highway, three years overdue remains incomplete, becoming a frustrating symbol of mismanagement and unmet expectations. Similarly, the West Coast Road project, critical to residents and businesses alike, has devolved into chaos. Miles of roadway remain unfinished, forcing motorists and homeowners to endure daily struggles, hazardous conditions and constant inconvenience.
Further compounding this failure is the Anse la Raye Bridge, which began construction in January 2024 with assurances by MP Wayne Girard that it would be completed in just nine months. Yet here we are, beyond the promised deadline, with uncertainty and broken commitments.
Perhaps most troubling is the overall deterioration of our island’s roads, conditions are at their worst, burdening Saint Lucians with dangerous commutes and unnecessary expenses. Coupled with the inconsistent and inadequate water supply plaguing numerous communities, some are without water for as long as six weeks. The infrastructure promises of the SLP have collapsed completely.
Ultimately, Minister Stephenson King and the Pierre administration have failed to deliver on their lofty infrastructure promises, underscoring a broader pattern of mismanagement and neglect. Saint Lucians deserve more than hollow assurances; they deserve competent leadership and tangible progress. #PierrePaBon#KingMustGo#SaveOurSaintLucia
