The ongoing neglect and apparent victimization of the people in Micoud South and Choiseul/Saltibus by the SLP government is deeply concerning. Despite the fact that these communities exercised their democratic right by voting for the UWP, they have faced punitive measures that starkly contrast with the principles of fair governance. The newly built Blanchard Community Center in Micoud South and the Piaye and Roblot Community Centres in Choiseul have remained closed for three years since the SLP took office. These facilities, which were intended to serve as vital hubs for community engagement, development, and support, are now symbolic of the government’s disregard for these constituencies.
The closure of these centers not only deprives the residents of essential services and opportunities for communal growth but also underscores a troubling trend of political retribution. This is not just a matter of neglect; it appears to be a deliberate strategy to punish and marginalize those who did not align with the current administration. Such actions undermine the very foundation of our democracy, where every citizen, regardless of their political affiliation, deserves equal access to government resources and support.
The people of Micoud South and Choiseul/Saltibus are resilient and deserve better. They should not be left to suffer because of their political choices. It is high time for the SLP government to rise above petty politics and fulfill its duty to all citizens, ensuring that community centers are open and operational, providing the necessary services and support that these communities rightfully deserve.
