“Yesterday, my office received an invitation to attend the opening ceremony of Global Ports Holdings (GPH) takeover of Port Castries and the Soufriere Waterfront. The ceremony is being held at the port today.
Despite the Opposition writing to Prime Minister Pierre months ago seeking consultation on what we deem a disastrous deal, our pleas have been ignored. Saint Lucia will no longer have control of Port Castries or Soufriere Waterfront for the next 30-40 Years. Based on our calculations, GPH will earn over EC$1 Billion for their EC$120 Million investment. How does this deal make any sense?
Why are they refusing to make the agreement public? Where is the transparency and accountability that Philip J Pierre and the Labour Party promised? SLASPA is one of the best run statutory organisations in Saint Lucia. Why doesn’t the Government trust SLASPA to do this project on their own? Saint Lucians deserve better!” Hon. Allen Chastanet
