We have seen the post election chaos in Venezuela. The widespread condemnation from neighboring South American Governments and reputable interrnational agencies which have all declared that the results declared by the Venezuelan National Electoral Council (CNE). We in St Lucia must. be vigilant to protect our tradition of free and fair elections and to ensure that malpractices apparent under Maduro do not take root here.
Reliable reports suggest that Prime Minister Phillip J Pierre has instructed the Electoral Commission to place Mr Herman St Helen at the head of the Electoral Department as Chief Elections Officer (CEO)⁹.
This gentleman is a retired Public Officer (PO). He was brought back as a PO to Boarder Control.
For 20 years (with the exception of 2021 when he assisted Mr Gaspard Jn Baptiste), he served as the Returning Officer in Castries East, the constituency of PM Pierre.
Now it appears that he will once again return as a Public Officer to head the Electoral Department at Pierre’s behest.
Never mind the farcical advertisement of the post. Obviously, any interview process will be a mere formality.
• Is St Helen being installed aa Chief Elections Officer to oversee the execution of Pierre’s Elections machinery?
