In May 2020, we officially completed phase 1 of the Castries Market Redevelopment Project.
This initial phase focused on enhancing the long-neglected vending area, which had been in an unacceptable state for far too long. The UWP’s vision has always been to make the Castries Market the premier attraction in Saint Lucia. Achieving this vision requires ongoing improvements to the entire market.
In 2020, the Government secured financing from the World Bank through the OECS Regional Tourism Competitiveness Project (ORTCP) to implement Phase 2 of the Castries Market Redevelopment Project.
Phase 2 is now nearing completion, continuing our efforts to realize this vision. Vendors and local entrepreneurs will benefit from upgraded facilities, while the public will enjoy access to better quality products and services.
I am hopeful that the Government will continue with Phase 3 of this important project.
