As a citizen of Saint Lucia, I cannot stay silent any longer. For too long, sometimes for over six weeks, we have been suffering from the sheer incompetence and mismanagement of WASCO under Minister Stephenson King. Every day, families are struggling to cook, clean, and simply live their lives because the most basic necessity, water is being denied to us.
How is it possible that in 2024, entire communities are still going days and weeks without water? How can the government sit back and watch people beg for water while they enjoy uninterrupted supply? It is completely unacceptable!
Under the UWP administration, we saw real efforts to improve water infrastructure across the country. The Dennery North Water Project, the Hill 20 Water Project, Fond Campeche, Vieux Fort, Micoud South and even the rehabilitation of the John Compton Dam. All these projects were put in place to make sure we never had to go through this kind of suffering again. But what happened? The SLP government came in and failed to continue the work.
Now, we are left with excuses, broken promises, and a WASCO that is failing its people under the leadership of Minister King. While we struggle, no one is being held accountable.
Saint Lucia deserves better. We need leadership that actually delivers, not one that waits until people start protesting before pretending to care. This water crisis is not just an inconvenience, it is an insult to every hardworking Saint Lucian.
Enough is enough! We need water NOW!
