Since the original La Retraite Bridge was first constructed by residents of the community over 25 years ago, it had only received minor improvements and maintenance. Understanding the critical importance of this key roadway and the high volume of daily traffic it supports, the United Workers Party (UWP) administration made it our duty prioritize safety and connectivity for residents.
In 2020, work on the construction of a brand-new, modern structure commenced. This essential upgrade included the installation of retaining walls, a bridge culvert, a 900mm precast concrete culvert, safety railings sidewalks and clear road signs—ensuring the safety of both pedestrians and motorists.
The new bridge also complemented the reconstruction of the La Retraite road, further enhancing the area’s transportation network.
The La Retraite Bridge now stands as a testament to visionary leadership and a commitment to improving infrastructure for the benefit of all.
