While we send our prayers up to the heavens, that we were generally speared the wraft of Hurricane Beryl, with no loss of life or significant destruction here on Saint Lucia, we must reflect on whether the country was adequately prepared for this weather system.
The Ministry of Infrastructure in its present configuration takes a lead role in national preparation.
In light of the aforementioned, I would like to ask 3 questions of the Senior Minister who heads this important state Ministry.
1. Why were NONE of the rivers around Saint Lucia desilted ahead of the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season?.
2. Since you and your team did NO WORK ahead of the season, when is the National Desilting Programme now scheduled to start?
3. Was there a comprehensive assessment of National Hurricane Shelters and what did the assessment reveal?
The Minister’s responses or lack of response to the above questions will certainly have us thinking as a nation.
We cannot continue to do the same things over and over. #Madness
