The impact of these challenges has been devastating, culminating in a staggering 17% decline in the agricultural sector for the year 2023. By restricting farmers’ access to water, the lifeblood of their operations, Minister Prospere is exacerbating an already dire situation.
Water is crucial for crop growth, livestock health, and overall farm productivity. Without it, farmers cannot sustain their operations, leading to reduced yields, financial losses, and a further decline in the sector. This decision not only undermines the hard work and resilience of our farmers but also threatens the food security and economic stability of Saint Lucia.
In a time when support and resources are desperately needed to revive the agricultural sector, Minister Prospere’s policy seems counterproductive and detrimental.
