1st deputy political leader

Born in 1966 as the seventh of ten children, Guy Eardley Joseph began his formal schooling at the Forestierre Methodist Combined School.  He was denied an opportunity to enter Secondary School but, determined to succeed, he entered the workforce soon after leaving primary school whilst keeping focus on pursuing higher education.  Years later, he attended the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, where he obtained a certificate in Construction Mechanics. Following his studies at the college, he enrolled at the National Research and Development Foundation (NRDF), completing Level Two Certification in Accounting.  He later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Monroe College and graduated a few years ago from Lynchburg Colleg, with a Masters in Business Management.

Guy Joseph has etched an indelible mark in the development of Castries Southeast and Saint Lucia even before entering the political arena. He enjoyed tremendous success as an entrepreneur, owning several businesses.

He served twelve years as President of the National Council on Public Transport successfully helping to modernize the public transport sector.

With the same dedication and passion, he channelled his innovative spirit to the political arena.  He was first elected to Parliament as the Representative for Castries Southeast in 2006 and subsequently won two successive terms.  From 2006-2011 he served as the Minister for Communications, Works, Transport and Public Utilities and from 2016-2021 he served as Minister for Economic Development and Civil Aviation.

Following his elevation to politics and ever cognizant of the importance of education, Guy Joseph consistently provided scholarships to many young residents of his constituency through the years.

During his time as MP for Castries Southeast, he ensured the standard of living of his constituents were elevated.  He constructed footpaths, drains, and roads in every major community and oversaw the completion of the Morne Liberty and Bexon/Odsan Parks.  He was the driving force behind the Forestierre Housing Development which gave residents access to affordable housing.

A hard and dedicated worker, Mr. Joseph continues to serve his people, the United Workers Party and his country with the same vigor, valor and tenacity as when he first started. He is happily married to educator and author Dr. Wendy Bailey-Joseph.
