1st Deputy Chairperson

Phera was born on April 3rd, 1971. The daughter of Dorina Polius of Gadette and George Byron of Grand Ravine. She was raised and lived in both communities.

Phera attended the La Ressource Combined School from 1976-1983 and then entered the Dennery Junior Secondary School after which she attended the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School, where she graduated in 1989.

In 1997, she obtained an associate degree in general teacher training at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College. 

As a teacher trainer/educator, Phera has contributed to the professional development of both pre-service and in-service teachers at all levels of the education system in Saint Lucia in teacher training and professional development. 

Phera’s main passion has been and continues to be to serve her community, a passion that was sparked from a very early age.  She was a youth leader and later, served on several groups and organizations including the constituency’s disaster preparedness committee, the Dennery North Constituency Council, and was president of the Gadette Improvement Committee, where she was instrumental in bringing to fruition two major water projects in the community. She represented her community at the national level in debating and in netball.  

Currently, Phera continues her career in the education sector as she teaches students via online platforms all over the globe. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree with First Class Honours in Education from UWI, as well as a Master’s Degree in New Literacies from the University of Sheffield. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Education with UNICAF University in Organizational Change and Leadership.

Phera Polius was nominated as the UWP candidate for Dennery North during the last election cycle and ran a highly competitive campaign in that constituency though she ultimately was not successful.  She however, remains committed to representing Dennery North and intends to run again.  She currently serves as a Senator in the Upper House of Parliament.
